Greetings from Nashville! I know it’s been a while, we wanted to update you all on what’s been going on with Poema lately.
We apologize that it’s been so long since we’ve released anything new, we have so much to share and the time is coming for us to show everyone what we’ve been up to. During this last year, we have moved our band to Nashville, and we’ve been working hard to really hone in on our sound, improve our musical skills, define our style and figure out what our future looks like.
We have never been more excited about new material. While we are still staying true to our classic sound, our new songs have a new and fresh take. We have really tried to branch out and experiment with different instrumentation, be more honest and vulnerable lyrically then I think either of us expected, and stretch ourselves creatively as much as possible. We’re really loving what’s happening, hopefully you will love it too. It’s scary and exciting and we just want to show you all as soon as possible!
Secondly: we’d like to formally announce that we are officially an independent band. As with every change in life, this one comes with its pros and cons. Pro’s are we are free to create the music we want, call the shots, and we can get more music to you faster! Cons: running a band independently is much more work without a label’s help, especially financially.
Our plan is to release new music this summer. We feel like the songs we’ve chosen really represent the musical direction Poema is headed. Along with new music, we will be starting a crowd funded campaign that will help us move forward as a newly independent band (things like recording more music, packaging, printing, touring, etc.) We’ve wrestled with the idea of doing a crowd funded campaign for many months, we’ve never done anything like this, but ultimately we’ve realized we cannot do this without your help. We would also love your input as we’re going into this. Let us know what sort of incentives you’d like to see, merch ideas, what cities you want us to come to, etc.
Most importantly: we want you to know how much we love and appreciate you. We’re so grateful to anyone who’s ever bought a CD (remember when we used to color on burned disks?), come to a show, shared our tunes, commented on our instagram, facebook...myspace. Your support over the years has blown our minds. The career we’ve chosen isn’t an easy one, and it’s certainly not one we can do on our own, we’ve always needed help, and your support has humbled and encouraged us along this journey. We love you so much. Forever. And ever.
Elle & Shealeen Louise
